The Spruell Family and Friends
This scholarship is established in celebration of the beautiful life and career of Melody Benton Spruell. Melody was a flagship member of the Tarrant County College Nursing Program and one of its first African American graduates. Nursing was her passion from a very early age. It was a dream she held from childhood and proudly achieved at TCC. After graduation, Melody went on to become a nurse for the “common man”. Over the course of her career, Melody worked in the following disciplines: Emergency Room, Flight for Life, Sexually Transmitted Disease prevention, Intensive Care, Endocrinology and Cardiovascular Health. She was the first in her family to earn a college degree, serving as a role model to her family, friends and countless young nurses. As a single mother for most of her career, she instilled in her children the drive to persevere, dream big, and set goals to achieve one’s heartfelt dreams. Melody Benton Spruell is a role model for all young nurses to dream big and believe in themselves to dream big.
