The Gonzalez Family and The Sullivan Family
The Ken McClelland Scholarship – established by his family in honor of a special and loving man. Ken was born intellectually disabled during a time when many health professionals didn’t give him much of a chance to live a productive life.
Ken proved them wrong. He was an inspiration to his parents and his siblings, most notably his older sisters Betty and Martha, who helped Ken navigate his way to independence. He was dependable, held a steady job for over three decades, earned his driver’s license, and lived an independent life for almost 30 years. Ken understood that he faced far more adversity than the average person, but yet achieved so much in his life and made his family proud in every way.
This scholarship will provide an opportunity for intellectually disabled students to reach their goals and live a productive life like Ken as an integral part of society. It is to assist them on how to prepare for life after school, and also symbolize that they CAN achieve their goals, whatever they may be.
