Alma Martinez-Eggar
This scholarship was established by Alma Martinez-Eggar in honor of her mother, Elida Martinez. Elida Martinez’s first work experience was in 1966 at the local community hospital as a nurse aide. In 1967 the owner of the hospital, who was the lead physician, asked if she would like to participate in an LVN program. She did and graduated in 1968 with her LVN license. In 1992, she was approached, by one of the physicians for whom she worked, to attend UT Southwestern’s nurse practitioner program. She graduated in 1992 with her Women’s Health Obstetric Gynecology Nurse Practitioner degree.
